MM Toys Seen in 1940's Tractor Ads

Postby tractormm5 » Sat Jul 09, 2011 5:00 pm

Looking for the Experts!

Maybe some of you guys have noticed from calendars and ads from the 1940's MM toys in the background such as an R with a cab etc. as seen in the link below:

http://cgi.ebay.com/1942-Minneapolis-Mo ... 2a1227a599

Were these toys just props since they were never mass produced? The size of some of them almost appear to be 1/12 scale in size compared to the children playing with them.

Just curious if anyone has a story to share.

they were as you say "props' or one of a kind models built to about 1/12th scale. Some of them have survived in collections.

Maj-mm:

Concerning those that are in collections, do you know what they are?

It appears from the ad there was an R with a Cab, an R or Z with NF and perhaps a thresher.

In 1942, would it have been too early for a U?

Thanks,

I have seen 1939 or 40 model GT in ads as well. A U in 42 would look the same as a later U. 1938-41 U had red grill. I have never seen any of the toys. Many other collectors I have tallked to say the same.

Is this one of the 1940 calendar prop toys?

No expert on toys but looks nothing like a MM. Would have Harvestor on reel slats and be metal. No toys ever from that promotion sales picture that I am aware of. I would think someone made the wooden model and into whatever color.
