M670 Diesel Clutch question

Postby johnpamac » Wed Oct 28, 2020 1:34 pm

I am restoring a long time family owned m670 diesel and replaced the motor and installed a new clutch kit. The book calls for the fingers to be 13/32 above the face of the clutch plate face. I measured from the top of the finger to the face, installed the clutch and when I depress the clutch pedal it does not even contact the throw out bearing. I wonder if the measurement should have been torhe bottom of the clutch finger? The real question, i was just going to give the 1 1/2 inches of free play in the pedal, and back off each finger to a few thousands of the throw out bearing. Any suggestions? Am I going to do the right thing, just don't feel like separating it again. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I'm sorry you misread. It is 13/32 from the top of the BACKPLATE to the top of the fingers not the clutch plate. Using a straight edge across the backplate.

We looked at over and over again, we did measure from the top of the backplate as shown. Still can't figure out what is messed up. I am going to try adjusting before splitting again

Appears to me like wrong clutch. Only other maybe key in forks gone. Throwout should ride on fingers

Even though it is in the tractor can you measure the highth of the backplate compared to the old one?

Problem solved. The throw out bearing adjustment using the rod from the clutch was way out, overlooked when I first looked at a basic manual I have. I bought a complete shop manual, gave me the measurement from the throw out bearing face to the transmission face. Forks do not ride the bearing, but all figured out. Now onto tracking down a radiator. Thanks for all the help
